What’s included

  • Folding, sliding and telescopic loft ladders fitted
  • Loft boarding raised on loft legs above the insulation
  • Loft insulation topped up to the recommended depth
  • Insulated, draught-sealed loft hatches
  • Handrails and hatch surrounds for safer access

Boarding that keeps insulation working

Laying boards straight onto the joists squashes the insulation underneath, and squashed insulation keeps far less heat in. Raising the boards on loft legs leaves the insulation at full depth, with an air gap that helps prevent condensation.

Loft ladders

The right ladder depends on the size of your hatch and the height of the ceiling. I measure both first, and if the hatch is too small for a ladder, I’ll explain the options before any work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Will boarding squash my insulation?

Not if it’s raised on loft legs. They keep the insulation at its full depth, with an air gap underneath the boards.

How deep should loft insulation be?

Around 270 mm of mineral wool is the usual recommendation. If yours is thinner, it can be topped up before the boarding goes down.

Can a loft ladder fit my hatch?

Usually. I measure the hatch and ceiling height first. If the hatch is too small, I’ll explain the options before any work starts.

Can I store heavy things in the loft?

Boarding is for general storage. Ceiling joists aren’t built to carry the loads a floor would, so keep very heavy items to a minimum and spread the weight out.
