Boarding that keeps insulation working
Laying boards straight onto the joists squashes the insulation underneath, and squashed insulation keeps far less heat in. Raising the boards on loft legs leaves the insulation at full depth, with an air gap that helps prevent condensation.
Loft ladders
The right ladder depends on the size of your hatch and the height of the ceiling. I measure both first, and if the hatch is too small for a ladder, I’ll explain the options before any work starts.
How a job runs
1. Survey
I check the hatch, ceiling height, joists and existing insulation.
2. Fixed quote
You get a written, fixed price for the ladder, boarding and insulation.
3. Fit
The landing below is protected, and the work is done with as little mess as possible.
4. Hand over
I show you how the ladder works and leave the area below clean.
How pricing works
Loft jobs get a written, fixed quote after a visit, so you know the cost before work starts. There’s no VAT to add.
Frequently asked questions
Not if it’s raised on loft legs. They keep the insulation at its full depth, with an air gap underneath the boards.
Around 270 mm of mineral wool is the usual recommendation. If yours is thinner, it can be topped up before the boarding goes down.
Usually. I measure the hatch and ceiling height first. If the hatch is too small, I’ll explain the options before any work starts.
Boarding is for general storage. Ceiling joists aren’t built to carry the loads a floor would, so keep very heavy items to a minimum and spread the weight out.
