The right fixings for your wall
What holds a TV or shelf safely depends on the wall behind it. Brick and block take standard fixings, plasterboard needs cavity fixings rated for the weight or fixing into the timber studs, and the lath and plaster walls common in older Brighton and Hove homes need extra care. I check the wall first and choose fixings to match the load.
How a job runs
1. Tell me what’s going up
Send the TV size or item details and a photo of the wall.
2. Agree the position
On the day, we agree the height and position together before anything is drilled.
3. Fix it
The wall is checked for pipes and cables, then the item is fixed securely and levelled.
4. Tidy up
Cables are tidied, dust is cleaned up, and everything is checked before I leave.
How pricing works
Small jobs are charged by the hour. Bigger lists get a written, fixed quote, so you know the cost before work starts. There’s no VAT to add.
Frequently asked questions
Often, yes, using fixings rated for the weight or by fixing into the timber studs. Very large TVs or full-motion arms may need a different approach, and I’ll check before drilling.
Yes. On plasterboard stud walls, cables can usually be run inside the wall: one hole behind the TV and one lower down, with the cables pulled through using a rod and finished with neat cable plates, as long as the wall’s construction allows it. Where it doesn’t, paintable trunking keeps them tidy on the surface. TV power leads shouldn’t be run inside a wall, so if you want those hidden too, a socket behind the TV needs fitting by an electrician. Some modern Samsung TVs have only a single cable which simplifies the whole process.
Either works. You can supply your own, or I can recommend and source a bracket rated for your TV. Please let me know if I need to supply prior to a visit as I do not carry them as a stock item. A decent one can be purchased for as little as £35.
Yes. They’re fixed level and secure, using fixings suited to your wall and to what the shelves will hold.
